Merle has been a tremendous supporter and provider of the corn for the Free Corn Feed on Thursday nights of the fair. Merle served on the board for many years and is always ready to lend a helping hand.
Doris joined the board in the 1970's. Doris was responsible for keeping the office attended, answering the phone, keeping the office clean and to make the coffee. Computers were not used then so a lot of paper work was done such as all the premium money had to be hand written and sorted. Doris helped with 4-H setup at the fair when the exhibits were displayed in the Armory. A trailer house was moved in to use a the fair office.
While Doris was on the board the grandstands were built, Expo Center was built, barns were moved in and built. The horse barn was built to house them during the fair. The Expo Center has proved to be a great asset to the fair which includes a nice office.
Helen has always been a great help during the fair and with any other things that the board needed help with. Helen joined the board to finish out the term of her husband, Larry, who passed away unexpectedly. Larry and Helen's passion was the horse arena. Recently the arena has been named, "Larry Mairs Arena." Helen is a great worker and helps with the Kids Day events, Craft Show, Bedding Fees, and anything else that comes up.
Marge has served on the board for many years and her enthusiasm for the Ransom County Fair is evident when visiting with her. In 2005 Marge was selected to be a Lifetime Member. When there is something to get done, Marge is there. Marge is a superintendent for the Horses and has, for years, helped with the 4-H & FFA Premium Sale as a clerk for Dale Haugen. In 2005 Marge and here husband, Ron, donated and built the new sandbox area for kids to enjoy during the fair.
Noreen served on the board for several years. Noreen was the founder and organizer of the Ladies Fall Festival which was held annually for about 10 years at the Expo Center. The Ladies Fall Festival was an event for ladies to come to the Expo Center and shop at the various booths for home decor, jewelry, food, etc. Funds raised through the event were used to purchase new tables for the Expo Center each year. Noreen enjoyed helping Helen Mairs get the fairgrounds ready for the fair by putting up necessary signs, putting up the curtains in the expo, and whatever else needed to be done. Noreen still helps at the fair when she is asked by judging 4-H exhibits and taking tickets at the event gates if needed.
